Nestled in the center of the Green Mountains is the quiet and quaint town of Manchester, Vt. Growing up, my family took frequent trips during the Fall and Winter seasons to this area. I have so many fond memories of the delicious restaurants we ate at, the cozy hotels and lodges where we stayed, shopping along Main St., skiing on the slopes, and taking in the beautiful Fall foliage. Manchester is a great place to escape from the crowds, noise, and fast-paced lifestyle you may be accustomed to and is the perfect place to get away.
Where to Stay
Manchester has a lot of options when it comes to lodging. Recently, the company Airbnb has become popular. Through this website you can book homes, apartments, and villas in 34,000 cities and 191 countries. After doing some research online, I found that there was a range between 30-40 rentals available for a wide span of dates throughout the upcoming months. This is one option you can look into for a unique experience in Manchester.
If you’re looking for a more upscale hotel check out the The Equinox. Located right in the center of Manchester Village, this four-star hotel truly documents the history and authenticity of the town since its opening in 1769. The Equinox is equipped with a beautiful golf course and spa as well as a tennis club, fitness club, pool, and recreational activities. Come during the Winter season and you can go snowshoeing or skiing at nearby Bromley or Stratton Mountains. If you’re thinking about visiting during some warmer months you can take up clay target shooting or fly fishing. If you have children with you have no fear. The resort offers plenty of activities for children to participate in of all ages such as sleigh rides and swimming. Plenty of opportunities for having fun with people of all ages!

Where to Eat
There are so many delicious dining options when eating in Manchester. Since you aren’t far from both Bromley and Stratton Mountains those also have a few restaurants for you to dine at. Whether you’re looking for Italian, French, Barbecue, Chinese, or classic American cuisine you can find all of it here. One of my personal favorites that I would go to every single time with my family is The Little Rooster Cafe. Located right in the heart of town is this small cafe that serves delicious breakfast and lunch options. From what I remember there is always a line since there aren’t too many tables inside, so be prepared to wait! I promise it’s worth it. They have various types of egg dishes, omelets, pancakes, french toast, coffee, fresh juice, and tasty cocktails. My personal favorite was the roasted turkey sandwich with stuffing and cranberry sauce that made me feel like I was eating all my favorites from a Thanksgiving dinner. Quick tip: they only take cash so make sure to have some on you when you go!
What to Do
You can find fun for any type of individual in Manchester. There are parks, museums, landmarks, and great shopping. The first place on your list to visit should be Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home. Besides just taking a tour of the home you can also check out a 1903 Pullman Palace Car, walk along trails, and explore the properties’ farm, gardens, and other grounds areas.

If you’re looking to get a little more adventurous, try going off-roading at the Land Rover Driving Experience School. Conveniently partnered with the Equinox Hotel that I mentioned above, this a unique and fun activity to do while in Manchester. As explained on their website, with each lesson customized to your specific skill level, you’ll learn how to navigate in difficult off-road setting's while in a Land Rover vehicle. You’re also partnered with a professional instructor to ensure the safety of all passengers.
Being in the heart of the Green Mountains means one-of-a-kind views and scenery. What better way to take that in then at the Equinox Preservation Trust. Made up of over 914 acres of land, there are a number of different trails to explore varying according to difficulty level. You can go hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and mountain biking around the preservation depending on the type of trail. Taking a trip to the Equinox Preservation Trust is perfect during the Fall to really take in the city's foliage. The Winter season is also great for doing more activities in the snow.

I love to shop, and one of my favorite things I remember doing with my family was spending time at the Manchester Designer Outlets. There are over 40 outlet stores that offer merchandise at discounted prices that allow you to save money while on your trip. From men and women's fashion, to shoes, antiques, accessories, and local goods you can always find something unique. Some of my favorite to pop into while spending an afternoon in town were:
J-Crew
Yankee Candle
Vineyard Vines
Kate Spade
The town also has some local shops serving homemade maple syrup, cheese, wine, and fresh bread. While on the topic of food there are restaurants located near the outlets that are convenient for taking a break from the shopping to get a bite to eat! Whether you’re looking for a sit down meal or something to take on the go some great places near the Manchester Designer Outlets are:
Gringo Jack’s Southwestern Bar & Grill
Little Rooster Café (mentioned before!)
Zoey’s Deli & Bakery
The Basil
Spiral Press Cafe
Mulligans Pub & Restaurant
